PURPOSE:To increase capacity and charge-discharge cycle life by arranging an electrolyte retainer made of a nonwoven fabric and a gelled electrolyte retained with an electrolyte, a positive plate, and a negative plate in the same plane, and by sealing them. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte retainer 3 made of a nonwoven fabric mainly comprising fine glass fibers and a gelled electrolyte 7 is arranged between a positive plate 1 and a negative plate 2 on a substrate 4. Since the positive plate 1, the negative plate 2, and the retainer 3 are arranged on the same plane of the substrate 4, the electrolyte is filled in the gap 6 formed in the contact direction of the positive and negative plates 1, 2 and the retainer 3 with the nonwoven fabric. The reaction of the positive plate 1 with the negative plate 2 through the electrolyte 7 in the nonwoven fabric is advanced even in the nonpressed condition. Capacity and charge-discharge cycle life are increased, oxygen gas absorbency is increased, and quick charging is made possible. |
