Copolymers�A which are based on ethylene, contain nitrile groups and are built up from� a) predominant amounts of the structural unit of ethylene,� b) secondary amounts of the structural unit of formula�Ia �<IMAGE>� c) and, if desired, structural units derived from further comonomers,� are prepared by reacting a base copolymer�B comprising predominant amounts of ethylene, secondary amounts of an alpha , beta -unsaturated carboxylic acid ester of the formula�Ib �<IMAGE>� and, if desired, further comonomers,� with ammonia at from 120 to 280 DEG C and at from 150 to 2�500�bar. �<??>The products are suitable for the production of films, mouldings and as coating compositions. |
