The present invention provides an apparatus for galvanizing material ready for treatment comprising a plurality of tandem-arranged baths open on their tops, with lids for selectively covering said tops, with a suction means for removing the vapors in the bath container and with a transport carriage for the material to be treated. An improvement of the removal of the nasuent vapors by suction is to be attained with an amount of exhaust air as low as possible. For this purpose the present invention provides that the air admission and/or intake apertures or slots are disposed at a spacing below the upper edge of the container or of the upper edge of a unit consisting of container and suction means such that turbulence of the air sucked in is substantially avoided, that a substantial portion of the liquid's vapors in the space above the liquid level of the bath is picked up by the flow of air sucked in but that the suction ports or suction slots are above the maximal height of the bath and that the height and the dimensions of the lid relative to both the container and the suction means are so selected that there exists an air passage on both sides between lid and container.
