Agricultural waste products, such as straw, potato haulms, etc. can be rotted in company with the nitrogen-rich plants, e.g. lucerne, clover. The biological decomposition occurs anaerobically. The rotting chamber used has an intake conduit at its lower end which is connected to a screw transporter. This transporter is parallel to and in heat contact with the chamber into the top of which it issues. A removal conduit is provided at the lower end of the chamber, and has an overflow pipe for rot fluid, transmitting both bacteria and heat to the transporter. - In the overflow pipe is a strainer with a cleaning unit for prevention of overflow of solid material. A stirrer in the upper part of the rotting chamber prevents foam entering the removal conduit for gas which terminates under the fluid surface in a condensation trap. A gas take-off from the condensation trap is provided with a pressure regulating valve for regulation the pressure in the rotting chamber during continuous operation. Alternatively, the valve can be closed when it is required to empty the chamber. |
