A camera capable of taking a various size of photograph and a method of controlling the camera are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a lens cover switch(S3) having a function to apply a power to the camera; a switch(S1) for applying the power according to open the lens cover; a number of mode selection switch(S2) enabling the various size of photograph to be taken; an operation controller(10), connected to the switch(S1) and the mode selection switch(S2), for generating a driving signal to control a focus distance; a focus controller(21), connected to the controller(10), for automatically controlling the focus of the subject, a zoom-in/zoom-out controller(22), connected to the operation controller(10), for controlling the zoom-in and the zoom-out operation; and a data outputting unit(23), connected to the operation controller(10), for providing the data.
