The present invention relates to a paper tray automatic mounting method for a printer which prevents damage to a paper tray and unnecessary power consumption. This method includes the steps of: if paper is not held in the paper tray or there is a control key input, driving a tray driving motor forward and removing the paper tray; driving the tray driving motor backward in response to the control key input and mounting the paper tray; and after mounting the tray, if there is no paper in the tray, turning off the power.
