In an apparatus 2 for skinning fur-bearing animals, for example mink and foxes, which is designed to draw the pelt off the carcass of the animal in one piece, the fur- bearing animal being previously prepared by cutting open the pelt at the hind part of the abdomen and the hind legs, and by drawing off the pelt from the hind legs and tail, and which comprises a clamping device 10, in which the hind, skinned part of the animal carcass can be clamped, a part of the apparatus moveable in relation to the clamping device 10 and with a pelt holder 32 and an especially stationary holding device 30 for the neck and/or back section of the carcass, the clamping device 10 is supported so that it is displaceable in the longitudinal direction of a working surface 8 at one side of the stationary holding device, 30, a transverse roller 28 being fitted at the opposite side of the holding device 30, that is at the front end of the working surface 8. The moveable part of the apparatus comprises a swivel arm 42, which at one end is pivotally connected to the apparatus frame 4, especially between the rear leg supports 6 for the working surface 8, and which at the opposite end is provided with the said pelt holder 32, which especially between the rear leg supports 6 for the working surface 8 is pivotable between a top position directly in front of the said roller 28 and a bottom position at a distance therefrom, the swivel arm 42, the pelt holder 32 and the displacement movement of the clamping devices being designed for operation by a common displacement element, especially a double-acting hydraulic cylinder 26. A very effective and correctly functioning skinning appliance can thereby be obtained by simple arrangements, in which the displacement or drawing force can be kept constant throughout the pelt-drawing movement. <IMAGE>
