It is known to use evaporation caps or covers to seal the tops of test elements when they are in an incubator of a chemical analyzer to prevent evaporation of sample fluids. However, as sample fluid can protrude from the test element because it is not fully absorbed (depending on the nature of the test element), this excess or protruding fluid can be wiped away as the element is moved into and out of the incubator, thereby producing erroneous results when the element is read. Described herein is an arrangement for an incubator (30) which raises and lowers evaporation caps (42) covering test elements (E) at a loading (A) or unloading (D) station. This is achieved by having a fixed camming surface (64, 64 min ) which acts on a cam follower (56) carried by each cap (42) to raise and lower the cap (42) as the associated test element (E) is moved past the camming surface (64, 64 min ). |
