In order to improve the frequency stabilisation in a gas laser, in which the pulling effect between neighbouring laser modes is employed in order to stabilise the laser frequency, in addition to a control element (actuator) (15) for matching the length of the resonator, a modulator (17) is additionally introduced into the resonator, which modulator responds to the higher frequency components of a regulating frequency, the regulating frequency corresponding to the alteration in the frequency shift as a result of the pulling effects. The arrangement according to the invention is suitable for gas lasers, especially HeNe lasers having high requirement for frequency stability. <IMAGE>
