The switching unit described is intended for switching a load in a circuit and includes a monitoring unit and at least two switches activated at essentially the same time and taking up a certain position for switching the load in normal working. The switches, together with at least two other devices, form a bridge circuit and the load is connected in series with the first of the switches. The monitoring unit monitors the bridge for any change in the balance and is driven by the working voltage on the load.When there is a fault in one of the switches, the monitoring unit controls the other, still operating, switch so that the load cannot be connected
