METHOD OF PRODUCING CHARCOAL

PURPOSE:To obtain charcoal usable also as an alternative to coke for ironmaking by making the temperature raising rate in the carbonization zone for wood not lower than that in the dry distillation zone to accomplish the strength retention and minimization of crack development. CONSTITUTION:Wood pref. <=69mm in diameter is introduced into a dry distillation zone at <=320 deg.C, put to dry distillation at a temperature-raising rate of <=100 deg.C/hr, and then introduced into a carbonization zone at >=320 deg.C followed by temperature raising at a rate not lower than that for the dry distillation (pref. <=250 deg.C/hr) to carry out carbonization at pref. >=680 deg.C. thus obtaining the objective high-quality charcoal.
