PURPOSE:To obtain an antimutagenic substance having efficient DNA-repairing action and useful as a drug, etc., by compounding a condensed tannin substance having specific physical and chemical characteristics and extracted from whole grass of Saxifraga stolonifera which is a plant of family Saxifragaceae. CONSTITUTION:The objective substance contains a condensed tannin substance extracted from whole grass of Saxifraga stolonifera and having the following physical and chemical characteristics. (a) Solubility, easily soluble in a mixture of water and ethanol, slightly soluble to some extent in water and ethanol and insoluble in chloroform; (b) molecular weight, <=10,000; (c) Rf value of thin-layer chromatography, 0.87; (d) Rf value of thin-layer chromatography, 0.89; (e) Rf value of thin-layer chromatography, 0.82; (f) positive to identification test of tannin reaction; etc. |
