In a process for renewing the visible surfaces of a step, in particular consisting of wood, in the case of which process an end moulding and a walk-on covering are fastened, at least in part, on the step, a carrier angle (1) with a horizontal bearing means (2) and a vertical end part (3) is fastened on the front edge of the step (11). A new walk-on covering (12) is laid on the bearing part (2), and an at least virtually T-shaped tread edge (6) is positioned from above, in the front region, on the bearing part and, by means of a vertical base part (7), is pushed into a slot (4) of the end part (3). Subsequently, a new end moulding (15) is fastened in front of the end part (3).
