A cervical support to immobilize the cervical vertebral column and in the form of a padded collar enclosing the patient's neck is designed in such a way that in spite of the immobilization in the region required for that purpose, some head motion to actuate the muscles and to avoid a long-term unpleasant feeling of compression shall be possible. The invention provides that the cervical support shall be relatively rigid in a region supporting the head and relatively elastically deforming in another region.
