NICOTINE-CONTAINING PREPARATION FOR TRANSDERMAL ADMINISTRATION

A nicotine-containing preparation is disclosed for transdermal application as a substitute for the use of tobacco products. The formulation comprises an oil/alcohol emulsion of nicotine which provides a bimodal rate of release. The formulation comprises an alkaline pH (8-10} to optimize transdermal delivery of nicotine. The formulation is stable at room temperature and easily stored and transported, for example in a plastic applicator bottle.
