PURPOSE: To enable speedy sort at a distributed data base management system by parallelly performing the transmission and merge of key and the return of line to a host at all and sending all the records from their original positions to the host without passing them through any other processor. CONSTITUTION: Plural distributed processors 12 perform communication through messages exchanged on a communication network 13. A file composed of partial files 14 is distributed to the respective processors 12, the respective partial files 14 are stored in the processors 12, and a host processor 16 is connected to all the processors 12. Plural local sorts are performed, partial key ranges are allocated to the processors 12, a record key is distributed to any designated processor 12 and at the same time, that designated processor 12 receives and merges the input key. Next, sort order data and distributed sorted records are sent to the host 16. Thus, sort processing can be performed at high speed at the distributed processing system. |
