PURPOSE:To prevent drop in travel stability or turnability of a vehicle attributable to something trouble by changing the assist force of a power steering mechanism when a fact that something wrong has occurred in a rear-wheel steering mechanism is detected. CONSTITUTION:When a fact that trouble has occurred in a rear-wheel steering mechanism 5, steering rear wheels on the basis of a preset steering ratio characteristic according to operation of a steering wheel is detected by trouble detecting means 76, 77 installed each in a microprocessor of a control unit and a backup circuit, assist force of a power steering mechanism 6 is changed by an assist force changing means 78 according to the detection. Consequently, cooperative control between the rear-wheel steering mechanism 5 and the power steering mechanism 6 is properly executed, so that any drop in travel stability or turnability of a vehicle attributable to the trouble can be thus prevented. |
