Ridged conveyor mechanism in sorting machine for waste material

Waste material is fed to the receiving area (4) of the ridged conveyor belt (1). The belt is driven by upper (3) and lower (2) rollers. The light and small objects are lifted and drop off the top of the belt. The heavier items tumble back to the receiving area. In previous mechanisms, the weight of the heavier items depresses (6) the upper side of the belt and raises (7) the lower side. In the present mechanism, sensors are used to vary the roller rotation speeds to keep the belt taut.
