The barrier includes parts which are coupled together to form a roadside drainage gully, above which guide rail sections (18) are coupled together to form a roadside barrier. A vehicle colliding with the barrier will bend it outwards, the vehicle wheels being captured in the gully. The guide rail is designed to absorb some of the collision impact in such a way that the wheel is not deflected back out of the gully.
