<p>A method of cooling charged particle beam used for a charged particle beam apparatus such as a ring-type accelerator and a storage ring. A solenoid magnet (5) provided along the charged particle beam generates a magnetic field whose direction is the same as that in which the charged particles travel, so that the charged particles make cyclotron spiral motion. Simultaneously, a high-frequency wave is projected from a high-frequency resonator (4) for inducing cyclotron maser action. The direction of the projection is opposite to or the same as that of the beam. Therefore, nonuniform portions of the kinetic energies on a plane perpendicular to the beam are released in the form of a cyclotron maser beam to improve the emittance of the beam and to uniform the energies of the charged particles.</p> |
