The invention relates to a device for entraining a flexible link, be it endless or otherwise, with the aid of a friction-type mechanism, and provided with a safety device. It consists of a chassis 1 on which are assembled: a motor unit 2 including a drum 3 with circular grooves receiving a cable; a movable frame 5 with a reeving drum 4 tensioned by means of 6; a balance arm 9 articulated about the axis XX' which is common with the drum 3 and including two pulleys 8 over which the cable passes. The balance arm is balanced by means of screw-nut systems associated with compression springs. Under the action of an abnormal tension in one or other of the lengths of the cable, the balance arm 9 will come to bear on the contact 12 or 15, causing either the halting or the reversal of the mechanism. As a variant, the cable is replaced by a so-called marine or square chain. The device according to the invention is intended to be applied in all embodiments requiring the entraining of a flexible endless link for the purpose of obtaining a continuous or reciprocating translational movement. <IMAGE>
