PURPOSE: To obtain a nicotine-containing pharmaceutical preparation for treating condition susceptible to nicotine therapy, containing nicotine at a dose sufficient to allow to tolerate the dose without exerting any adverse effects and thereafter containing an increase amount until a therapeutic dose is achieved. CONSTITUTION: This pharmaceutical preparation for administering nicotine to patients having blood free from nicotine contains nicotine at a daily dose (preferably 1-5mg) sufficient to allow nicotine tolerate the dose without showing any adverse effects when administered for a definite period and thereafter increasing the dose of nicotine until a therapeutic dose is achieved (preferably in 1-5mg/day increased amount). The preparation is suitable for treating disease state characterized by neurodegenerative demantia, especially disease state characterized by recognition and memory impairment such as Alzheimer's disease.
