摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the field distribution converting optical fiber which can freely perform mutual conversion between an elliptic field distribution and a circular field distribution and can be mass-produced. SOLUTION: An optical axis is denoted as Z, and X-directional and Y- directional distributions of a core with three orthogonal axes X, Y, and Z are formed in a square distribution shape and made mutually different in gradient to periodically vary light beams propagated on the XZ plane and XY plane along the Z axis to mutually different cycles, thereby periodically varying the cross-sectional shape of the field distributions. The length of an optical fiber 1 is made nearly equal to a common multiple of 1/4 cycle length of the Z-axial field distribution variation cycles of the light beam propagated on the XZ plane and 1/4 cycle length of Z-axial field distribution variation cycles of the light beam propagated on the YZ plane.
