<p>This invention relates to a mechanical pencil capable of utilizing effectively a lead or refill, and an innovative modification is made to a refill protection pipe. The modification is as follows: a projection having a surface having hardness equal to, or higher than, that of the refill is formed by depositing powder on the inner surface of the refill protection pipe, fine coiled fibers having a surface having hardness equal to, or higher than, that of the refill is deposited on the inner surface of the refill protection pipe via a base material. An inorganic coating film having a projection having hardness equal to, or higher than, that of the refill is deposited on the inner surface of the refill protection pipe. An annular refill holding member is disposed in the refill protection pipe. The refill holding member is equipped on its surface with a treated portion having a surface having hardness equal to, or higher than, that of the refill, and partial play is provided between the refill holding member and the inner surface of the refill protection pipe so as to facilitate expansion and restoration.</p> |
