To obtain a reliable, physically measurable quantity in the region of a liquid to be located in the cable, the cable contains a) a core element (1) which responds sensitively to tension or flexion; b) a first sheath (2) made of a material which swells in the liquid to be located (6); c) a second sheath (4) which fits firmly around the first sheath (2) and is made of a thick braid of high-strength yarn with limited extensibility, the angle of plaiting ( alpha ) being larger or smaller than the so-called neutral angle.
