A receiving device (2) consists of a base element (7) and a reinforcing arrangement (4). It is designed to receive a coil (1) and serves both for storage and to facilitate manipulation when a coil (1) is being unwound. The base element (7) is provided with openings (8, 8a) through which supporting elements (11, 16) can be inserted in order to raise the coil, for example during unwinding, from the base element (7) of the receiving device (2). The supporting elements may be rollers (11) or a central mandrel (16), which are arranged on a handling station (9).
