PURPOSE:To produce a carbon porous product having a large bulk density in a short time by thermally curing a specific phenolic resin prepolymer composition and subsequently thermally carbonizing the cured product under a non- oxidative atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A phenolic resin prepolymer composition comprising 100 pts.wt. of a resol type phenolic resin prepolymer, 1-5 pts.wt. of a powdery cellulose, 1-20 pts.wt. of a glycol liquid at room temperature and a cuiring agent is thermally cured and subsequently thermally carbonized at a temperature of >=500 deg.C under a non-oxidative atmosphere. The powdery cellulose is preferably wood flour, pulp flour or a mixture thereof. The phenolic resin prepolymer composition may contain, if necessary, a foaming agent. The above-mentioned method permits to produce a carbon porous product especially having a bulk density of approximately 0.5g/cm<3> in a short time without generating any crack or explosion. |
