PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of knocking by a method wherein first and second combustion deciding means to decide quality of a combustion state based on a change rate of a pressure in a cylinder or a vibration acceleration detecting value are selected according to the running state of an engine. CONSTITUTION:Regarding a pressure in a cylinder detected by a detecting means 4, a change rate of a pressure in a cylinder is calculated by a computing means 16, and based on a change state in the fall region of the change rate of a pressure in a cylinder, quality of a combustion state is decided by a combustion state deciding means 31. A second combustion state deciding means 32 decides quality of a combustion state based on a detecting signal from a vibration acceleration detecting means 6. According to a running state detected by a detecting means 50, a selecting means 40 selects the presage type combustion state deciding means 31 when the number of revolutions of an engine exceeds a given value and the second combustion state deciding means 32 when it is below the given value, and according to the decision, a combustion control means 60 controls combustion of an engine. This constitution enables prevention of the occurrence of knocking. |
