Certain waste materials and, in particular, fly ash from refuse incineration plants are environmentally polluting or toxic. The object of the invention is the environmentally friendly disposal of such materials. This object is achieved by adding the fly ash to a glass melt batch and the glass incorporating the hazardous materials, the gas formed in the melting process being fed to a gas purification and the dust and/or sludge arising there being added back to the glass batch. The process according to the invention is suitable in particular for the disposal of fly ash from refuse incineration plants. <IMAGE>
