Automatic wire winding machinery - has changeover for heavy reels by means of cross-sectional rails

On an automatic wire reeling machine, the reel changeover mechanism consists of a chain driven platform on top rails which have a gap to allow the platform to travel at right angles on a bottom rail. A locator in the form of a mandril ensures correct positioning of the platform before reel change. Pref the platform (6) runs on the rails (7) to the winder, from agap in the rails (8), by means of a drive (11). When the cradle (1) is in the correct position under the full reel (12), the mandril (10) engages in the control rod (9) and the reel drive (14, 17,18) is released. The platform (6) reverses to the cross rails (8) and the mandril (3) engages in the chain section (4) by means of which the chain (5) carries forward the cradle (1), along the rails (8). ADVANTAGE - The heavy reel is handled without difficulty, and is not subject to gravity change with braking, or expensive lifting equipment.
