PURPOSE:To uniformly orient a ferroelectric liquid crystal by using a copolymer contg. at least 4-vinyl biphenyl and divinyl benzene as the oriented film for the liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:The copolymer contg. at least the 4-vinyl biphenyl and the divinyl benzene is used as the oriented film for the liquid crystal to be provided in the liquid crystal display element formed by sealing the liquid crystal between two sheets of transparent electrode substrates. There is, therefore, no need for freshly providing a special stage in production process. The pretilt angle increases to >=5 deg. in the rubbing method as well and the polymer oriented film which is stable with age is obtd. The ferroelectric liquid crystal is uniformly oriented in this way. |
