A description is given of a brake system which is suitable for regulating both the braking slip and the tractive slip. In order to cover for the run-up phase of the pumps - during which their delivery rate is low - in the case of traction control, an accumulator (42) is connected up. This accumulator must supply a sufficient volume of pressure medium at as constant a level as possible. At the same time, its overall volume should be small. To this end, the proposal is to use a piston-type accumulator whose actuating pressure is produced by the pressure difference between a vacuum source and the atmosphere or a compressor pressure. <IMAGE>
