The light source (1) is provided with two parallel +f transparent plates (2,3) which together form the outlet window of the source (1). A current of cooled air 818) is circualted between theplates-which are part of a totally enclosed air circuit comprising also an inner space (4) surrounding the fluorescent tubes (15) an air cooling unit conduits and end connectors (6,8). Heat energy is thus extracted from the light source and its immediate surroundings without risk of contaminants from conventional air conditioning alternatives. USE/ADVANTAGE - For environmentally controlled room e.g. operating theatre. Cooling air circuit is self-contained and has no connection with atmosphere to be controlled. Is capable of maintaining a near-constant temperature in area close to light source e.g. operating table.
