Soft magnetic bodies comprising powder particles are produced by the powder particles being provided with an insulating layer, the powder particles being pressed and the shaped body being subsequently annealed to lower the coercive field strength. Magnetic cores having low demagnetization losses can be produced according to the invention by such a process by the powder particles of the magnetic material 5 first being coated with a first, insulating phosphate layer 6 and then with a second organic layer 7, with the latter being able to additionally contain solid particles 8. If desired, particles of a lubricant 9 can be added to the coated powder particles prior to pressing. <IMAGE>
