CARPET HAVING SURFACE TREATED POLYPROPYLENE WOVEN FABRIC

PURPOSE:To obtain the carpet having excellent durability by using polypropylene(PP) subjected to a surface treatment with chlorinated polyolefin of a specific chlorine content as a primary base fabric and/or secondary base fabric. CONSTITUTION:The chlorinated polyolefin is preferably a chlorinated ethylene/ vinyl acetate copolymer and chlorinated PP. Further, the chlorine content thereof is preferably 10 to 40wt.%. The adhesion to rubber latex is insufficient and the good carpet is not obtainable if the content is over 40wt.% or below 10wt.%. The chlorinated polyolefin is applied on the PP woven fabric in the state of a soln. prepd. by using cyclohexane and methylene chloride and is dried. The use of the chlorinated polyolefin as a water dispersion without contg. a salt org. solvent is possible as well. The above-mentioned soln. or water dispersion can be applied by a brush, roll coater or by spraying. The surface treatment is applied on one surface on at least the side in contact with latex in either case of the primary base fabric and the secondary base fabric.
