COATING FILM AND MAGNETO-OPTICAL ELEMENT FORMED BY USING THIS FILM

PURPOSE:To increase a Kerr rotating angle even if the coating film is extremely thin and single layer by forming the film in such a manner that the coefft. k of absorption is associated with double refractive index N=n-ik in the wavelength region of the light to be projected. CONSTITUTION:This element has a thin magnetic film and the coating film which is formed on the incident light side of the thin magnetic film and in which the coefft. k of absorption is associated with double refractive index N=n-ik in the wavelength region of the light to be projected. The reflectivity is extremely lowered in spite of the small thickness and the single layer if the coating film is such a film which generates absorption at the wavelength of the projected light. The effect of enhancing the Kerr rotating angle is eventually extremely increased.
