PURPOSE:To increase the corrosion protecting effect of the hole surface of a rolling roll and to prevent the breakage of the roll generating from its hole surface by forming a roll construction capable of substantially maintaining a nonoxidizing atmosphere in the inside of a center hole formed along the axial direction, in a rolling roll consisting of a body part and an axial part. CONSTITUTION:In a rolling mill consisting of a body part 1A and an axial part 1B; the surface of a center hole 2 formed along the axial direction, is provided with a compressive residual stress by heat treatment as well as a corrosion resistant paint, before forcing plugs 3 into the centers of both ends of hole 2 through adhesive materials to fix them to the hole 2. Next, a gas sealing pipe is connected to a threaded hole 3A to fill an inert gas such as gaseous Ar in the hole 2, before forming a hermetic construction by driving screws into the holes 3A. Further, a high vacuum atmosphere can also be formed in the hole 2. In this way, the progress of corrosion in the surface of center hole is remarkably reduced, and the generation of a fatigue failure starting from a corroded part is prevented. |
