PURPOSE:To improve the heat resistance of the above substrate and to reduce the thickness thereof as well as to prevent the generation of inclusions and pits by using Ti as the matrix of a substrate material, controlling the gaseous components in the Ti and limiting the inclusions and the phase stabilization prohibiting elements therein to specific values. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic disk substrate is constituted, by weight %, of <=0.010% (V/13)+(Fe/20)+(Cr/17)+(Ni/31)+(Co/23), <=0.015% Rem+Si+B+W, (Rem is a rare earth metal element), and 0+2N+0.75C ranging >=0.03% to <=0.5% and the balance Ti. The magnetic disk which has the excellent heat resistance, can be reduced in thickness, contains substantially no inclusions and pits to cause the magnetic errors and has good surface characteristics is obtd. in this way.
