PURPOSE:To enable identification of a pollution depth at a polluted location by moving a gamma-ray detector with a scanning mechanism parallel with a surface portion at a location of radioactive pollution. CONSTITUTION:A pollution depth measuring section 10 is provided with a truck 11 that can be moved in a fixed direction at a specified speed with a drive mechanism. A gamma-ray detector 13 is mounted on the bottom of a strut part 12B and surrounded with a shielding body 14. The shielding body 14 is fixed on the strut part 12B at the top thereof and a circular opening 15 is provided on the bottom thereof. A detection output of the detector 13 undergoes a signal processing with a preamplifier or the like arranged in a support device 12 and then, converted into a digital signal to be sent to a computer through a cable 16. Then, the measuring section 10 is set for a gamma ray detection mode to operate the drive mechanism and a scanning is performed with the detector 13 on one way at a distance enough to traverse a polluted location 19 completely. The computer judges a pollution depth D at the polluted location 19 based on a data thus obtained.
