A safe and sensitive method is provided for determining the tyrosine- phosphorylating or phosphotyrosine-dephosphorylat- ing activity of a material, such as a human tissue sample, by reacting the sample with a polypeptide which contains (phospho)tyr- osine residues and assaying the phosphorylated polypeptide by using an antibody to a polypeptide containing phosphotyrosine. the method can conveniently be performed using a diagnosis kit containing th e polypeptide and the antibody. The method and the kit are useful for example for diagnosing tumours.
