PURPOSE:To obtain a reinforcing material of potassium hexatitanate fiber imparting wear resistance to thermoplastic resin or light metal by covering with titanium dioxide having high Mohs hardness. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of titanium raw material compound and potassium raw material compound mixed in a ratio expressed by general formula K2 O.nTiO2 (n is 2-4) is burned at 900-1200 deg.C to generate massive potassium titanate fiber. Next, said product is dipped in water or hot water and opened to from a slurry. Then, acid (e.g. sulfuric acid) is added to said slurry to adjust pH to 9.3-9.7 and further acid is added to adjust pH to 8.0-9.1, then treated to composition of the potassium titanate fiber as 6.1-7.0 of molar ratio of TiO2/K2O, thus heated to >=600 deg.C (below melting point of potassium hexatitanate) to afford the aimed potassium hexatitanate fiber having the fiber surface covered with titanium dioxide. |
