PURPOSE:To enhance resistance to wear and resistance to oxidation by forming the carbonaceous inorganic material of a metal-contg. polycyclic aromatic polymer incorporating metal such as Ti, Zr and Hf. CONSTITUTION:This carbonaceous inorganic material is obtained from a metal contg. polycyclic aromatic polymer and constituted of the components (a)-(c) described hereunder. (a) Crystalline carbon derived from a polycyclic aromatic compd. being a mesophase state constituting the above-mentioned polymer or crystalline carbon and amorphous carbon; (b) Crystalline carbon being in a nonoriental state and/or amorphous carbon derived from an optical isotropic polycyclic aromatic compd. constituting the above-mentioned polymer; (c) (1) Amorphous substance substantially consisting of Si, M, O and 0 and/or (2) an aggregate of both ultrafine crystal particle which substantially consists of beta-SiC, MC, solid soln. of beta-SiC and MO and MC1-x and has <=500Angstrom particle diameter and amorphous SiOy and MOz. Si-M-C-O substance (M shows at least one kind selected from among Ti, Zr and Hf, 0<x<1, 0<y<2 and 0<=z<=2) incorporates 5-60wt.% Si, 0.5-45wt.% M, 30-40wt.% C and 0.01-30wt.% O as the rate of the constitutional elements. |
