PURPOSE:To easily obtain a boron phosphide sintered body having high sintering density and useful as a thermoelectric element for high temp. use at a relatively low sintering temp. by adding a specified amt. of fine metal powder to boron phosphite powder before sintering. CONSTITUTION:Fine metal powder is added to boron phosphide powder by 0.5-10wt.%. The metal is selected among the groups IB, IVB and VIII metals such as Cu, Ag, Pd, Si and Mo. The resulting powdery mixture is molded and sintered at 1,000-1,500 deg.C to obtain a boron phosphide sintered body. Since the fine metal powder is added to the hardly sinterable boron phosphide powder, sintering can be carried out at the low temp. and the sintered body has about 80% sintering density. |
