The cladding mat is for the walls or bottom of a watercourse and comprises rectangular top and bottom walls joined together along one edge and via parallel seams at right angles to this edge. This forms parallel sections for filling with sand, gravel etc. At each section the top wall (6) is divided into overlapping portions of equal length. The end of each portion furthest from the closed end of the section is above that of the next one towards this end.
