PURPOSE: To enable to automatically calculate the size of an object by detecting the right and left border lines points of an object contour of a X-ray picture, adapting a predetermined model function to the points, and measuring the object contour based on this. CONSTITUTION: The right and left border lines of a heart of a digital thoracic X-ray picture is detected, and a predetermined model function is adapted to the pictured heart contour to perform calculation. The entire contour of the heart is overlaid on the digital thoracic picture and displayed on a monitor. As a model function, a movable dispersion function which is adapted to the heart border point is used. This allows a number of parameters relating to the size of heart, etc., to be automatically calculated from a digital thoracic X-ray picture. Parameters include the diameter of the cross-section of a heart, longitudinal diameter of the heart, longer diameter, wider diameter, pictured heart, ratio of heart to lung, ratio of pictured heart area to pictured lung area, and these can be calculated based on the measured heart contour and lung size. |
