PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for ink jet image recording whereby gradation representation of an image having a brightness equal to that in a photo output print of a conventional silver film can be achieved and the apparatus can be made compact. SOLUTION: An ink concentration is controlled by varying a mixture ratio of ink to ink diluent corresponding to a level of a digital image signal. When an image is recorded by ejecting a diluted ink having the controlled ink concentration, an image density gradation is generated by using an equal brightness gradation that the change of the brightness represented by the recorded image density is constant among the gradation levels restricting the image density. A target image density is set based on the digital image signal by using the image density gradation. The ink concentration is controlled by varying the mixture ratio based on the target image density, thereby solving the problem. |
