In order to make an electrical connection, for connecting directly to a machine, part of an insulation of a cable is inserted into a resilient (springy) adapter 20 so as to cover one connection end of the cable, this end being connected to a terminal of the machine via a terminal pad (plate), and a terminal piece, which has been mounted on the cable and moved along it, is brought back into a predetermined installation position on the machine so that one end of this piece fits tightly onto the external surface of the adapter. Part of the insulation is inserted into the adapter by introducing a hollow tubular plastic core 21 into the adapter in the stretched state, this core having an internal diameter greater than the external diameter of the insulation to be covered, so that, when the core is removed, the adapter contracts strongly around the insulation and avoids the use of a lubricant between the adapter and the end of the cable. <IMAGE>
