摘要 PURPOSE:To facilitate insertion of an endoscope by providing a detecting means for detecting the direction having the less light receiving quantity of a light receiving means on the basis of the light receiving quantity in each view field direction which is obtained by scanning the view field of the light receiving means by a scanning means, thus permitting the insertion direction of the endoscope to be detected. CONSTITUTION:An automatic insertion device 30 is equipped with a light receiving quantity measuring means 34 which measures and memorizes the light receiving quantity of the solid photographing element 18 of an endoscope 1, and in the automatic insertion, the light receiving quantity of the solid photographing element 18 in each view field direction in the case when the view field through an automatic insertion light receiving window 16b is scanned is measured by a scan control means 33, and the light receiving quantity is memorized in correspondence with each view field direction. When the light receiving quantity data is inputted into a min. value extracting means 35, the min. value of the light receiving quantity of the solid photographing element 18 is extracted. A curved part 6 is curving-operated through a curving/insertion driving means 7 by a curvature instruction means 41 so that the top edge of the insertion part 2 is directed in the direction corresponding to the min. value, and the endoscope 1 is advanced through a curving/insertion driving means 7 by an advance instructing means 42.
