<p>Trimellitic acid is produced by oxidising pseudocumene with an O2- contg. gas in acetic acid solvent contg. 0.01-1.0 wt.% of 1 or more Co-cpd., 0.01-1.0 wt.% of 1 or more Mn-cpd., and 0.01-2.0 wt.% of NaBr. Atomic ratio Br:(Co+Mn) is 2.51-2.99. Process comprises 2 or more reaction stages, the first maintained at 110180 C and the second at 180-230OC. Whole amts. of Co-cpd., Mn-cpd., NaBr, solvent and reactant are introdeuced into the first preceding reaction stage, and oxidn. virtually completed in the succeeding reaction stage. The obtd. trimellific acid is useful as raw material for plasticisers, polymers having heat-resisting property etc.</p> |
