<p>A device suitable for reducing fouling of underwater features of ships, for example propeller blades and sonar domes, comprises a hollow sheath (10; 13; 17-21; 24) of flexible, water-impervious material, which is of such dimensions as to enclose at least a major part of the surface of the feature, and means (11; 14, 15; 22; 30) to secure the sheath fluid-tight around that part. The sheath may, for example, enclose a single propeller blade or a whole propeller and may incorporate a water-tight zip (14; 22; 30) and/or a band (11; 15) or collar to retain it in position. Sea-water may be displaced from the sheath before it is secured in position and a biocide may be included within the sheath, for example as a coating on its inner surface.</p> |
